Karen’s Commitment to Constituent Services

Working with constituents to resolve individual situations is one of the most rewarding aspects of being on the School Board.

As a mom and community advocate, I know how important it is to have someone listen to my concerns and try to help get them resolved. As your Mount Vernon District Representative, I have worked every day to resolve issues and concerns raised by students, parents and teachers. My approach has been that I am a phone call or an email away from listening to constituent concerns.  My approach to constituent services is to use the golden rule, treat people the way that you want to be treated. This means that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and the sense of urgency that is appropriate for the specific situation.

As a matter of practice, all concerns brought to Karen are addressed in the following manner:

  1. Engage,
  2. Listen,
  3. Ask questions,
  4. Explore options, and
  5. Work together to resolve the issue.

A recent message from a school based staff member is what I strive for every day:

“Gratitude and Grateful for you and for your communication. I hope my situation is an advocacy for other employees out there to help them. It is why I tell everyone about you for your advocacy and keeping all of FCPS in mind.

Some constituent feedback I recently received:

“Your personal outreach that enabled us to talk live (now there is an “old school” concept 😉) , along with your detailed follow-up, illustrate the empathy, courtesy and attention to detail that a FCPS parent hopes to see in their School Board Member.”

“Thank you for your prompt reply! We appreciate being able to open up a dialogue around this matter.”

Thank you for entrusting me to be your representative; it is an honor to serve the Mount Vernon community.

Support the Campaign

This is a community effort. Karen is here to represent you and your Mount Vernon family at the county level. Did you know that whenever Karen meets students from Kindergarten up that she always introduces herself the same way? She invariably tells constituents, young and old, "I work for you." You should see the wide eyes of the elementary school students when they hear that!

Your donation is an opportunity to be part of something bigger. Please support Karen in her re-election campaign. Give generously today!
